This article represents my experience as a volunteer psychologist in an association focused on the psycho-social support of women suffering from breast cancer at ADAMA (Breast Friends Association from Niterói - RJ). Based on observations, interviews and group meetings, since 2004, it has been possible to assure the importance of the support group in women’s life after the breast cancer diagnosis. Such experience along with systemic theory widened my vision of the symptom, regarding, the breast cancer as a way of transformation. Besides that, the study lightened the importance of the family system and the social system of these women’s life after the diagnosis.
