The presented article introduces readers to the family’s cultural and historical contextualization through the view of Ariès, Badinter, Julien, Passos and Roudinesco bringing a historical perspective of family formation in the fifteenth century to the current configuration in current occidental culture, through contemporary times and culminating with the social construction of maternity, aiming to challenge the traditional cultural impositions on the subject and its reflects, as well as maternal relations.
