At different times in history and even today, sexuality is a topic surrounded by taboos and secrets. But after all, how did this vital topic become something so “forbidden”? Through a historical review of sexuality, we are faced with different gender roles and understanding of sexual activity. We seek to understand and explain the role of the family and the transmission and perpetuation of positive and negative discourses about sexuality. The present study aims to discuss the crossings of sexuality, culture and transgenerationality, through a narrative review of the literature. We used pubMed, Scielo and Lilacs databases and selected publications in the last 10 years.
